Season finally: All hail the Isotopes; outlast Plug Uglies to claim 2021 championship

Isotopes 8

Plug Uglies 4

WP: Gary Webber     LP: Jeff Whitehead

In the resumption of the championship game Wednesday at McKenzie Field, the Isotopes finished up where they left off to claim the TNB+50 Baseball Championship.

Their 8-4 victory over the defending champion Plug Uglies, the Isotopes claimed their first league title in just their second year of existence under Manager Doug Stowers.

Gary Webber did Gary Webber things to shut down the Plugs and earn the victory over Jeff Whitehead.

The game was suspended with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning due to rain. At the time the Plugs were trailing 8-3 but threatening with two runners on base. When the game resumed, Webber closed out the inning by fielding a little nubber back to the mound.

The Plugs scored one in the bottom of the 7th to make it 8-4 but that was as close as they would get. Webber threw zeroes in the 8th and 9th to close out the game.

The final out brought to a close the longest, and rainiest, season the league has ever seen.
See you in the spring, folks.
