Week 2: 'Topes top Phils, Plugs pummel Wonders; Goats, Grays slugfest called by darkness

Rick Stacy of the Fainting Goats fires to home plate

Isotopes 7
Phillies 4

WP: Gary Webber
LP: Max Strubel

In a tightly contested game, the Isotopes won their second game of the year defeating the Phillies.
Gary Webber pitched his second straight complete game for the win. Shorthanded and with several players outside of their normal position, the plucky Isotopes charged forward with the bats. Every player had at least one hit, and Rob Turgeon in his league debut had two.

Lundy Bancroft showed some amazing defense in centerfield as well.

The Phillies were playing catchup from the start, managing to get within 2 runs of the lead with a three-run 5th inning. Webber and defense closed things down in the final two frames after adding a run in the 6th. Phillies pitcher Ken Sloat performed a rarity: a pickoff at 1B to end one inning and to get the first out in the next inning. Wild, wacky stuff!

Plugs 10
Wonders 1

WP: Jeff Whitehead
LP: Nabil Hannoush

Jeff Whitehead pitched a complete game, 2-hitter over the Wonder's Nabil Hannoush as the Plugs broke out to an early lead and never looked back.
The Plugs, still smarting from a walk-off loss to the Wonders a year ago, scored early and often to put this game out of reach early.
Whitehead allowed just one unearned run in going the distance.
The Plugs scored 3 in the 3rd with Jon Adolph hitting a single to drive in 2. runs. In the 5th, the Plugs scored several times with Greg "E-Bomb" Elbaum driving in 2 with a single, followed by an RBI single by Jeff Cabana, and a 2-RBI single by Matt Boulanger.
The Plugs' scoring concluded in the 6th with an RBI single by Jack "The World's Most Interesting Man" Wileden, who went 3 for 3 at the plate.

Dorian Grays 6
Fainting Goats 7 (suspended top of 4th inn.)

The Goats v. Grays matchup was suspended in the 4th on account of darkness. Some truly oppressive clouds blotted the sun, and shaved off at least 15 to 20 minutes of usable daylight.

At the time of suspension, the Goats were clinging to a 7-6 lead, while the Grays had the bases loaded with one out.
The remainder of the game will be picked up at a later date, to be determined.
