Grays 6 (game 2)
Wonders 5

WP: Jay Sadowski
LP: Nabil Hannoush

The Dorian Grays completed a rare sweep by beating the Wonders twice within 24 hours in games scheduled Wednesday and Thursday. The Thursday game was a makeup of a rainout in Week 1.
In Game 1, Marty "the Cat" Newman led the charge going 2 for 2 with 3 rbi's at the plate. Steve Powers and Mike "Knuckles" Whatley chipped in with two hits each. Mike "Deet" Dietlin and Powers also had triples.
On the mound Whatley pitched 6 innings giving up three runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out six. Jay "Supe" Sadowski finished off the game by pitching a perfect 7th inning.
The defense behind Whatley and Sadowski played a near flawless game only committing 1 error while completing 12 ground ball outs.
In game 2, the Grays stunned the Ageless Wonders  by putting up a 5 spot in their last at bat in the 7th to snatch a 6-5 win.
Nabil Hannoush was the hard-luck loser, pitching the complete game loss. He kept the Grays offense off balance through the first six before the wheels fell off the Wonder's wagon in the 7th. The Grays' 5 runs in the final inning came on 4 hits, 2 walks and one hit batter.
Sadowski got the vulture victory in relief of Whatley, who relieved starter John Malinowski. A key moment in the game came in the fourth inning with the Wonders ahead 4-1.  Whatley came on to relieve Malinowski who with bases loaded with no one out. He pitches his way out of the jam allowing only one run on a sacrifice fly.
Sadowski was 3-3, and clutch hits by Mitch Gaslin, Tim Bombard and Steve Monette contributed to the comeback win.
For the Wonders, Rob Ostberg had 3 hits, and Tod "One D" Garfield had 2 hits.
The two wins gives the Wonders a tidy 4-game winning streak and puts them alone in 3rd place behind the Uglies and Isotopes.

Plug Uglies 6
Phillies 0
WP: Jeff Whitehead
LP: Ken Sloat

Jeff Whitehead pitched a complete-game one-hitter in a shut-out victory over the Phillies.
The loss is the second straight shut-out loss by the Phils.
Whitehead went 7, allowing one hit, a double by Miracle Max Strubel in the 3rd. He allowed 2 walks and struck out 6.
He bested Ken "GDIK" Sloat, who pitched a strong game but in the end came up short. Sloat gave up 6 runs, 3 earned, over 7 while allowing only 4 hits and 1 walk.
The Plugs scored 1 in the 2nd and 5 in the 3rd but where held scoreless over the final four.
In the 2nd Nolan Anaya drove in a run with a sacrifice. In the 3rd the Uglies scored 5: both Chris "Chaka" Scanlon and Eric "Noodles" Bennett reached on errors. Bill Evans singled to load the bases and Matt Boulanger doubled to drive in two. A Whitehead double scored Boulanger and Evans, and Steve Wall also doubled to bring in Whitehead.
In the Ugly Play of the Night©, Scanlon tried to advance from second to third on Matt Boulanger's grounder to the left side by employing his best Baryshnikov move to avoid the ball, but the final result was more 'Baryshni cough-cough.'
The ball took a weird bounce, and the Plugs manager unsuccessfully tried maneuvering out of its way. As bemused Phils shortstop Andy Klepaki looked on Scanlon tried making "a graceless and bizarre leap" before falling to the ground "like a wounded animal"**
The silver-lining here is that at least he broke up the double play and Boulanger gets credit for the single.

**Scanlon's words, not ours. It's also the link he supplied. We're not being cruel.

Isotopes 12
Fainting Goats 6

WP: Gary Webber
LP: Todd Newmann

The Isotopes charged out of the gate vs. Todd Newmann, the Goat's hard-throwing righty, by lacing several line drives all over the field. When the dust settled, They put up 8 runs in the first two, although 4 were earned.
The Goats managed 2 in first, but from there,  Isotopes starter Gary Webber did Gary Webber things, shutting down the Goats offense and not allowing a run until the 6th.
In the 6th, Newmann hit a booming double with two on to plate 2, and then two more runs scored on successive errors.
With the score suddenly 9-6, the Isotopes scored 3 run in the 6th and 7 to cement the victory.
For the Goats, Geoff Oldmixon was 3 for 3 and scored twice, Tony Maspo was 2 for 3 with a run, and Newman was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI.
For the Isotopes, Lundy Bancroft and Webber at the top of the lineup scored 3 runs each, and 3, 4, and 5 hitters Mike Cauley, Doug Stowers and Ed Cauley each scored twice.
