Week 15: Phils best Grays in epic season finale to clinch 3rd; 10 innings over 2 nights!

The Surging Phils™ - surely that deserves a trademark - clinched 3rd place with an epic 10-inning marathon win versus the Dorian Grays. Suspended at 2-2 after 8 on Thursday, the two teams agreed to meet on Friday to settle things with a lot on the line.

Here's Max:

Fantastic finish to 10 innings of intense baseball. Grays and Phillies traded 0’s in the 9th, but Jay Sadowski blooped a single into CF to start the 10th. He stole 2B, moved to 3B on a fielder's choice and scored the go-ahead run on a groundout -- despite a great throw home by 1B Ron Totten that the catcher couldn’t handle cleanly.
Grays pitcher Whately K’d the first Phillies batter but walked Ken Sloat, who promptly stole 2B.
Strubel singled past short, moving Sloat to third. Strubel then stole 2B and the Grays tried to cut off the throw to stop Sloat from advancing, but the throw was mishandled and Sloat scored to tie the game.
Craig Allaben singled and Paul Kaplan walked to load the bases, still one out. Al Harchik drew a walk to bring the win and 3rd place finish to the Phillies.

Final Standings

The Grays now have a quick turnaround to meet the Fainting Goats at 11 a.m. Saturday at Herlihy.

The winner of the 4 v. 5 game then plays the first-seed Wonderboys on Wednesday, whereas the Phils meet the Plug Uglies on Thursday. Both games are at MacKenzie in Holyoke, beginning at 6 p.m.

A lot of baseball left, fellas.
