A head-to-head matchup between the first-place Wonderboys and the second-place Dorian Grays was washed out by thunderstorms on Wednesday. With the season winding down, and the Ageless Wonders™ ahead in the standings by 1 1/2 games, the washout took away the Grays' best chance of chipping into the Wonders' lead.

Speaking of the standings, if you follow Premier League football at all, they talk of "squeaky bum time" as that part of the season where pressure builds as the number of games dwindle away. It alludes to the sound of a grade-school kid awkwardly squirming in his seat when called upon by the teacher to give an answer.  It's what Americans call the homestretch.

The Wonders lead the Grays by 1 1/2 with 2 games to play.  All they need to do is win.
The Grays need to win both their games and hope the Wonders lose both of theirs to have a shot at the regular-season crown.
The Plug Uglies, 2 1/2 games back but with a game in hand over the Wonders, need to win their final 3 games and hope the Wonders lose both their games in order to force a tie.
It is, by definition, squeaky bum time.

Speaking of the Plug Uglies, they defeated the Phils, on Thursday night in one of those rare pitchers duels that occasionally pop up in this league.
Greg Elbaum bested Kenny Sloat 3-0, with all of the runs scoring in the 4th inning.
Elbaum only gave up 3 hits. Three tainted hits that were the difference between a shutout and a no-hitter, says manager Eric "Noodles" Bennett. One of a liner to center that was very nearly caught by charging outfielder Jon Adolph, and the other two were bang-bang plays at first that could have gone either way.
Sloat was no slouch either. He only gave up 2 hits and a walk while striking out 3.
For the Plugs, Brian "Benji" Benjamin was 2-3 with a run scored. In the 4th, Mo Partee, Jeff Cabana and Bennett each drove in a run.
