Week 6: Wonders plunk Plugs, Grays grab Goats

Thursday

Plug Uglies 6
Wonderboys 7
WP: Nabil Hannoush, Sv: Chris Ciepiela
LP: Greg Elbaum

The Uglies broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the 4th capped by a 2 RBI single to right by Eric "Noodles" Bennett. But the Wonders struck back in the 4th and 5th with a lethal, over-50 combo of walks, errors and a couple of key hits to take a 7-5 lead.
In the top of the 7th and trailing by 2, Chris Scanlon smacked a hard single to left and moved to second on a walk to Greg Elbaum. After a wild pitch, Benji Benjamin (2 H, HBP, RBI, R) hit an infield single to plate one run and move the tying run to 3rd.
But just as quickly the rally, the inning, and the game ended on a hard grounder to third.
"And that," said Bennett, "was all she wrote."

Wednesday

Fainting Goats - 6
Dorian Grays - 14
WP: Pres Pieraccini Sv: Jay Sadowski
LP: Mike O'Donnell

A much closer game than the final score shows. Take away the 6 runs scored by the Grays in the twilight in the bottom of the 6th, and the final score would be 8-6. And the Grays gunned down the would-be 7th run at the plate to end the 6th.
Pieraccini went three before leaving with a lead for Sadowski. Mike O'Donnell went four for the Goats, allowing 8 runs, but only 4 earned. Steve Niec pitched the final 2.
The Goats scored 2 in the first off Pres Pieraccini to take an early lead on 3 straight singles by Tom Sebastyn, Tony Maspo, and Steve Niec, and then a flyball to left by Hector Arroyo that was clanked. In the second, they scored 2 more on singles by special guest Benji Benjamin, Sebastyn, and Niec.
The Grays got one back in the bottom of the inning on a double by Mike "Deet" Dietlin and a sac fly to left by Jay Sadowski, and then two in the 2nd when Matt Boulanger and Marty 'The Cat" Newman scored following a string of errors, wild pitches, and whatnot.
The Grays took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd when Chris "Nacho" Bernacki singled, stole second and came around on an RBI single by Boulanger, who later scored on an error.
In the 4th, the Grays scored three on successive singles by Dietlin, Pete Jordan, and Sadowski. Following a fielder's choice that allowed one run to score, "Big League" Stu Clark hit a single to drive in two more for an 8-4 lead.
The Goats narrowed the score to 8-6 in the 5th when Paddy Johnson drove in two with a single.
