Week 2: Grays shroud Goats, Wonders smother Plug Uglies

Wednesday

Dorian Grays 9
Fainting Goats 6 (5 inn)

WP: Mike Whately,  LP: Rick Stacy

The Fainting Goats, making their first appearance in this league, were rudely greeted by the Dorian Grays,  who put up a six-spot before the Goats had so much as an at-bat. Walks and wild pitches were a recipe for disaster for the Goats in that fateful first.
Mike Whately went the distance for the Grays, mixing an assortment of groundball outs and futile swings when he needed them. Rick Stacy had a rocky first for the Grays before settling down in the second inning. Mike O'Donnell, making his first pitching appearance in 10 years, pitched effectively before running into trouble. Ed Webb pitched the final 2 1/3, allowing only one unearned run.
Offensively, Todd Neumann, Ed Webb, and Jerold Duquette were each 2 for 2 with a combined 4 runs scored. Neumann hit a booming double that fell just short of going over the fence in left field.

Thursday

Wonder Boys - 10
Plug Uglies - 5 (6 inn)

WP: Nabil Hannoush, LP: Greg Elbaum
The Ageless Wonders ™ rapped out 15 hits and drove in 10 runs to best the Plug Uglies.
Starter Nabil Hannoush went the distance, keeping the Plugs off balance. He was helped out by a D that turned three double plays, including the rare 1-2-3 DP involving Hannoush flagging a comebacker, getting the ball to catcher Scott Taylor who fired a seed to Senior Jacques, who got the ball a step before the runner.
The Wonders started the scoring with 2 in the first, but the Plugs answered back with 3 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
The Wonders then scored 2, 3, and 3 in the 3rd, 4th and 5th to put it away.
Mo Partee pitched 1 1/3 of scoreless relief for the Plugs.
