Week 1: On with the show! Plugs edge Phils, Wonders v. Grays suspended by sunset

Wednesday's game:
Wonders 7, Dorian Grays 6 (suspended 3 inn.)

Thursday's game:
Phillies 3, PlugUglies 4.
WP: G Elbaum, LP: M Strubel

The 2019 season is underway, and after 2 games we've had a little bit of everything.
In the Thursday night game, the rival Phils and Plugs squared off in an epic opening day matchup.
The Phils led 3-0 after 5, but the Plugs tied it in the 6th and took the lead in the 7th.
Eric Bennett had 2 hits and 2 RBI on the day, including the game winner.

Greg Elbaum got the win in relief in his Plug Uglies debut

Both starting pitchers were slinging zeros for the first 5 innings. Jon Adolph of the Plugs gave up singles to the first two Phillies batters but proceeded to record 12 straight outs. Ken Sloat of the Phils pitched 5 shutout innings, scattering 5 hits and 2 walks. The Phillies scored first in the 5th inning on 3 unearned runs, including a groundout rbi for Doug Stowers and rbi single for Max Strubel.

The Plugs responded with 3 runs against new pitcher Ron Totten in the 6th, and Strubel pitched the 7th and gave up the lead run. Phillies failed to score in the bottom of the 7th with darkness closing in.

In the Wednesday game, play was suspended after 3 innings on account of darkness with the ageless Wonders™ clinging to a 7-6 lead. The game was hopelessly late from the get-go because the Frontier JV game, which began at 4 p.m. did not end until just before 6:30.

Both teams agreed to pick up where they left off the next time they meet on June 5. They will play 2 innings to make this game official, and then start the regularly scheduled game on the 5th.

And speaking of the Frontier JV team, according to their schedule there are only 2 days when there will be a conflict with our schedule, on May 1 and May 23. The May 1 game, this Wednesday, is already relocated to Hopkins Academy in Hadley

Next week:
Wednesday: Dorian Grays @ Fainting Goats, 5:45 p.m., Hopkins Academy, Hadley
Thursday: Wonder Boys @ Plug Uglies, 5:45 p.m., Herlihy Field, Whately.

Off week*: Phils.

*On off-weeks for the remainder of the regular season, players from the off team are welcome to fill in if any of the teams that are playing are short bodies.
The way it works should be like this: if a manager has a critical shortage of available players, he will notify the league president, and the president will reach out to the off team.
