Opening Day 2019 - 'It'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters'

"In the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love"

--Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Locksley Hall, 1835

"When Mr. Tennyson used to write pieces of poetry for the queen of England, he told about the thought to which a young man’s fancy lightly turns in the spring, thereby showing, so far as future generations were concerned, a most amazing ignorance. Had he been a man who wrote pieces for the sporting pages of a paper, he would have known what a young man’s fancy turns to in the spring. And had he known all this, he would have written about baseball and not about love."

Our 2019 season gets underway this week, weather permitting of course.
On Wednesday the league champions, the ageless Wonders™ set off in defense of their crown versus the hungry Dorian Grays. Thursday night, the Plug Uglies square off against the Phillies.
The expansion Fainting Goats make their league debut the following Wednesday versus the Grays.
These are exciting times for this league. We've undergone our first expansion in three years. This comes after our most competitive season to date, where the parity was so great that the difference between first place and last place was just 2.5 games.
Opening day is, by its nature, all about optimism, all about high skies and sunshine. It's about the eternal promise and unlimited possibilities of a wonderful game.
Bask in it. Suit up and let's play ball.

One last administrative note: If you haven't paid your league dues by opening day, you're ineligible to play until you do. Sorry, league rules. Get your payment in ASAP if you haven't already. If money is tight, contact the league president and work out installments. Doing nothing is your worst option.
