Week 14: Wonders reclaim 1st place; Phils stuff Plugs

"Dirtdog" Doug Dargarin

Wednesday: Wonderboys 7, Dorian Grays 1 (6 IP)

WP: Nabil Hannoush LP: Mike Whately

Delayed 30 minutes by rain, the game got underway but it was as if only one team came ready to play. The ageless Wonders scored early and often to break out to a 7-run lead before the Grays managed to score their only run in the 6th.
The game was suspended after 6 due to darkness.
Nabil Hannoush went the distance and kept the Grays hitters off balance with a dizzying array of breaking stuff. Wonders right fielder John Devecchi lit up the bottom of the lineup with 2 hits and a walk in four plate appearances.
The Gray's lone highlight was "Dirtdog" Doug Dagarin who dove face first into the mud patch at deep second to knock down a liner and prevent the runner from scoring.

Thursday: Phillies 6, Plug Uglies 4.

WP: Max Strubel, SV: Ken Sloat LP: Jon Adolph.

The Philles strung together five singles and two walks to score 4 in the opening inning against Plug Uglies starter Jon Adolph in Thursday's game. But the never-say-die Plugs countered with 2 runs in the bottom of the second on a walk, fielder's error and a single off Phils starter Miracle Max Strubel.
Both teams settled down in the middle innings before the Phils added one in the fifth on a single by Yami Baker, two wild pitches and then another single by Baker's stepfather Craig Allaben.
The Plugs rallied with two runs in the 6th on three straight singles to narrow the score.
The Phils, however, added an insurance run in the top of the 7th and then Ken Sloat closed the door with a perfect inning of relief to end the game.
"Beautiful baseball night, good solid baseball from both teams," Strubel said.

Note: Week 15 is the coin-flip game. Each team was scheduled to have 7 home and 7 away games.  For Week 15, the manager will meet at home plate and flip a coin to see who is home field. The team with the superior record will call heads or tails while the coin is in the air.
