Week 6: Grays come up short -- again! Wonderboys 10-4, over & out

Wednesday game: Plug Uglies 7, Dorian Grays 6

The Plugs defeated the Grays 7-6 in the Wednesday game, sending the Grays to their 3rd 1-run loss in the last 4 games. And that 4th game was a tie.
The Plugs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, and the Grays clawed back to tie it in the 4th. The Plugs took a 2-run lead in the 6th. The Grays scored one in the 6th to make it a one-run game, and had the tying run on 2nd when 3B Jeff Cabana leapt up to snare a hot smash down the line for the final out.
Jon Adolph went 6 for the win, and Bill Evans picked up the save.
Mike Whately went 7 for the Grays.

Thursday's game: Wonderboys 10, Phillies 4
The Wonders defeated the Phils 10-4 despite having just 8 players. Manager Larry Pietras has nothing but kind words for the Phillies's display of outstanding sportsmanship for loaning the team a glove so the Wonders could play 9 on defense.
Chris Ciepiela was strong on the mound, and she was aided by reserve player Scott Taylor who went 4-4 in his league debut with his wife and 3 kids cheering from the sideline. "His bat was on fire with a single, double, walk, single and double for a perfect 4-4 debut," Larry said.

Note: On Wednesday, a really good ballgame was marred by repeated and prolonged chirping at the umpire. This is uncalled for and inexcusable. This league is founded on the idea of sportsmanship, as demonstrated by the Phillies's generosity toward the Wonderboys. I remind you of the wording on the league registration that you all agreed to: "Games are intended to be competitive and fun. Good sportsmanship - toward your teammates, your opponents and the umpires - is of utmost importance. Failing to abide by this can get you suspended or even ejected from the league. Please don't be a jerk."
